Grgos's cave |
Located at the entry to the village of Otruševec, 5 km from Samobor. It has two halls, and the height difference between the entrance and the end of the cave is 19m. It is about 30 m long and it is rich in dripstones. A path has been built and electric lighting installed in the cave. There is a gate at the entrance and the key can be obtained at the Špilja Tavern, from the owner Josip Grgos, who discovered the cave while digging for limestone in 1973. Its abundance of stalactites and stalagmites lead the cave, the most beautiful one in the north of Croatia, to be proclaimed a protected geomorphologic natural monument in 1974.The cave is open from Thusday till Sunday from 10 am to 17 pm. |

Outdoor Mining Museum at Rude |
The first outdoor mining museum in Croatia is soon to be opened at Rude, just 5 kilometres northwest of Samobor.
The outdoor mining museum includes the restored Kokel and Holy Trinity mining pits, with a total length of 340 m. The Kokel and Holy Trinity pits are just a small part of the some twenty mining pits at Rude used for the excavation of copper, iron and gypsum. It is not known exactly when mining began at Rude, though some sources and the old mining works, recognizable by the low and narrow hallways created without the use of gunpowder, suggest that these pits were already in function in the Middle Ages, and perhaps even date back to Roman times. The oldest written records state that copper ore was extracted here in 1210, when the village Rude was called Rovi (english = pits).
From 1952 to 1956, Dr. Boris Šinkovec conducted detailed scientific studies in the mines, aimed at reviving the mining industry at Rude. However, these studies only confirmed that the exploitation of the copper and iron deposits were not profitable. Following this, the entrances to the mines were filled in and closed in 1956.
In addition to visiting the restored mines, visitors can also view the mineralogical-petrographical collection on display in the Rude Primary School, and take a walk down the Mining and Botanical Educational Trail (1.5 km in length, altitude difference 200 m) from the centre of Rude to the Suban Botanical Garden in Manja Vas.

Promenade Anindol |
The most beatiful Samobor's promenade and wooded park is located on a hill Tepec. There is also the chapel of St. Anne and a little more towards the top of the hill is the Church St. George (Juraj). |
Stations of the Cross |
Built in 1933 commemorating the 1900th anniversary of salvation by Jesus Christ. Stations of the Cross with 14 station is adorned with reliefs representing Calvary. Stretches uphill from the Chapel of St. Anne to the Chapel of St. George. A leisurely walk of 14 stations can be seen for 10 to 20 minutes. |
Samobor Old Town, 13th century |
It is situated on Tepec Hill and is in ruins (only part of the walls remain). It was inhabited right up until the end of 18th century when the proprietors abandoned it.
The shortest route from the centre of Samobor to the Old Town goes along Sv. Ane Street or Jurjevska Street to Anindol (15 minutes). From here, there is a maintained walkway to the entrance of former noblemen’s fortress (15 min.) You can set out from the centre along Starogradska Street up to Taborac, where you turn left to sv. Mihalj, and a short climb (10-15 min.) will bring you to your goal. |
Vugrinščak - promenade and sports and recreation centre |
Vugrinščak is located at the foot of Tepec Hill and is a continuation of the dr. Franjo Tuđman Promenade (which begins at Hotel Lavica and ends at the perimeter of the park behind the Museum). A stroll along the walkway will bring you from the town centre to the foot of the Old Town or to the Church of St. Michael, the sports facilities (swimming-pools and playground for beach volleyball, and hospitality facilities (Restaurant "Gabreku 1929" and snack-bar "Vugrinščak " are nearby). |
The Okić Old Town |
5 km south of Samobor, is unique among the aristocratic, medieval towns in continental Croatia. This is due not only to its location and the exceptionally well preserved sections of the town, but also due to the significance the town has on account of the fact that in its largest part it originates from the Romanesque period (11th-12th centuries).
Okić is appealing for any form of hiking and climbing from sharp tour to simply walking in the mountains, because there is something that is rare in the Croatian mountains - climbing the track secured to the alpine way pegs and steel cords.
The way to the foot of the old city, mountain house in the village under Okić, Klake, takes over from Samobor, Kladje, Molvice, Konščica and Klake, length approximately 12 km. Also from the Jastrebarsko over Plešivica through Bukovje Podvrško and Kotari. |
